Description

A Physical+ Interface Board OS81xxx encapsulates the entire physical hardware interface of a MOST network. It connects to SMSC’s INIC I/O Board, which is part of an INIC Evaluation Platform OS81xxx or to a customized application board both including an External Host Controller (EHC).

Hardware Structure Example

Based on the physical+ interface board’s incorporated kernel design, the application developed ‘below’ can be designed to be detached from MOST network speed grades or physical layers. This can be especially useful for application hardware designed in early development phases.

By exchanging physical+ interface boards, the application can easily be modified to access other network speeds by performing just a few steps. In turn, this facilitates a simple upgrade of a MOST25 application to a MOST50 or MOST150 application.

Apart from upgrading the application to another network speed, the board versions (1-3) of the Physical+ Interface Board OS81110 enable the application ‘below’ to stream every data type available for MOST150 based applications.

All board versions support a specific combination of hardware ports. Depending upon the ports required for the application and the data type(s) to be streamed, a board version can be chosen, and its ports can be easily accessed by selecting one of the available pin configurations. The table below provides an overview of the pin configuration settings incorporated in each board version (pin configurations are explained in the OS81110 data sheet):
