Description

INIC eLITE utilizes SMSC's automotive qualified OS81082, a highly integrated Intelligent Network Interface Controller. The OS81082 INIC's innovative ePHY signal conditioning technology enables to meet automotive EMI standards using low-cost UTP wire.

Designers can use existing automotive qualified electrical connectors. With only a few simple initialization commands from the EHC to the OS81082 INIC, the respective signal paths are established and the data can flow between the devices.

The INIC eLITE Starter Kit is a reference platform that includes hardware, firmware, application reference software, and a complete set of documentation.

OS81082-50 Mbps Electrical Physical Layer INIC

The OS81082 INIC is an integrated network transceiver device that includes low-level protocol processing to configure the network at power up. This allows the network to become fully functional without the need of an external processor or protocol stack. Management of streaming, packet, and control channels is established using on-chip Function Block (FBlock) technology. The OS81082 has four I2S interfaces (two inputs and two outputs) and an I2C port that supports communication of packet, control, and status information. The OS81082 electrical physical layer circuitry includes signal conditioning that substantially reduces EMI. INIC's network port uses differential I/O that is transformer coupled to the physical layer.

Application Reference Software

The EHC communicates with the OS81082 using a message based INIC API. This API was developed to optimize network configuration and communication. Only a small number of instructions are required to configure INIC to send and/or receive data over the network, allowing the EHC to focus a majority of its processing power on managing the local application rather than managing the network interface. The API is documented in the user's manual.
